Artists Join Forces to Raise Money for People in Need

Artists in Longmont, Colorado are joining forces with the Outreach United Resource Center (OUR Center) to help raise badly needed funds in these particularly rough economic times. The mission of the OUR Center is to help people in the Colorado St. Vrain region move toward self-sufficiency by unifying community resources.

The project, called Art for OUR Center, is an outreach effort of Longmont Studio Tour artists and their colleagues. Working with clients of the OUR Center, artists will create works of art to be sold for the benefit of the OUR Center. Conceived of and lead by artist Robert Goldsworthy, the project supports the Studio Tour’s goal of involvement and outreach to the community by artists.

Art for OUR Center will take place in 2 phases. In the first phase, every Friday morning during the month of June, Longmont artists will hire clients who are homeless from the OUR Center as models for art sessions. Models selected will be paid standard rates and traditional tips, totaling approximately $100 for a half day’s work. There will be a different model every week for 4 weeks. About 20 local artists will participate in this project, with approximately 25 pieces selected for the benefit sale.

In the second phase, the selection of the finest pieces from the first phase will be sold through a silent auction at the OUR Center’s annual dinner/dance fund raiser at the Radisson Hotel in Longmont Saturday evening September 19 from 6-11:30 PM. People in attendance will include philanthropists, and people from the city government, churches, medical clinics, private businesses, and of course, art collectors.

At the event, the OUR Center will tell the story of the models through a brief slide show or video presentation. The week prior to the fundraiser, the art will be shown at The Great Frame Up at 430 Main Street in Longmont (1-block north of The Muse Gallery) and at the ArtLink celebration Friday September 18th. Other pieces of art generated from the first phase that did not make the final cut for the silent auction sale will be available for viewing and purchase (the proceeds of these pieces will go to the OUR Center) at the artists’ studios during the Studio Tour Saturday, September 19th, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday, September 20th, 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
